More Than Just A Crisp

I was so pleased to welcome the wonderful Vegan Friendly, Gluten Free Emily Fruit Crisps to my Yoga Event In June. I had heard good things about this healthy eating brand. I already loved the packaging they used, so colourful and vibrant, visually very appealing.

Most of our purchases, particularly impulse purchases, are bought by the “look” of something, or the story behind it? How many of us wait for the John Lewis Christmas Advert, we feel safe with this brand, its familiar, It has a story, and we are more likely to shop there because of this.

What was Emily Fruit Crisps Story? One of the co-founders Alex had named the brand after his girlfriend, so that he could see her name wherever he went. Alex And Emily met in London, fell in love and travelled the world together, a modern day romance, I was hooked.

I eagerly awaited the arrival of their popular Pineapple Crisps, they also offered a variety of different fruit and veggie snacks that I couldn’t wait to sample at a later date, Red Apple And Dried Banana, Sweet Potato Carrot And Beetroot to name but a few.

As soon as I opened the packet I could smell the crisp sweetness of pineapple. Upon further inspection I couldn’t believe how crunchy they looked, I had somehow expected the crisps to have a slightly chewy texture to them, as most other shop bought “fruit crisps” did. And by the way, why oh why do supermarket bought Fruit Or Veggie crisps always taste so salty, and they don’t really taste of the actual fruit do they? I was hoping Emily’s would.

I was not disappointed they were extremely crunchy, much more than your average crisp and deliciously sweet. Not too overpowering and with a slight hint of caramel. I tasted another and another, totally moorish. I turned over the packet and was so pleased to see “No added sugar, gluten free, no additives or preservatives”

There was only two ingredients in these crisps – pineapple and non hydrogenated sustainable palm oil – Traditional Palm Oil is the worlds most usable vegetable oil, unfortunately this oil has tremendous cost to our environment and animal endangerment. Its sad to think that so many brands out there still use Palm Oil, I was so pleased Emily used only RSPO certified oil.

I was looking forward to serving these delightfully moorish crisps with some Fresh Mint tea at my Yoga Event. It was the perfect blend of sweet and savoury.

Emily Fruit Crisps proved very popular. I had hoped to sample some more for myself on the day but within minutes of serving these tasty treats they were devoured. A true taste test. I am already looking forward to the next crunch.
